Therapeutic Actions:

• Antiseptic
• Acts on the digestive organs, urinary tract and venous system to relieve congestion
• Cathartic
• Promotes the flow of bile from the gallbladder
• Stimulates appetite
• Stimulates gastric secretions

Clinical Indications:

• Cholecystitis, for treatment and prevention
• Cholelithiasis, for treatment and prevention if there is no blockage
• Endometriosis
• Chronic conditions of the liver
• Chronic conditions of the spleen
• Hepatitis
• Jaundice when it is not due to a blockage
• Pancreatic inactivity

Contraindications:

• Bile duct obstruction
• Pregnancy

Chemical Constituents:

• Chionanthin
• Hemolytic saponin glycoside
• Phyllyrin, a lignan glycoside
