- Antihistamine (animal studies show skullcap to inhibit
arachidonic acid pathways)
- Antihypertensive
- Nervine
- Sedative due to the glycosides

- In animal studies, enhances the hypnotic effect of barbiturates
- In vivo studies, acts as agonist ligand at the benzodiazepine-GABA receptor complex
